Overnight snow storm.............

Well, we got about 18 inches overnight. It was the heavy wet stuff and so when Scott and I got up and started shoveling about 6:30am and the snow blower died. We flagged down a plow truck and asked him to just open the mouth of the driveway. Well, he got his plow truck stuck in the driveway - sideways - ripping the front all the heck....... it will be such a lovely mess to clean up in the spring. Sigh.
So, we had to flag down ANOTHER truck to pull the other truck out of the driveway. That being done, it was back to hand shoveling the driveway.......our BIG LONG driveway. Scott did borrow Lance's blower but the snow was so heavy and so deep that it really only helped a little.
Now the sun is out and there is beautiful blue sky....... what a morning. My arms feel like overcooked spagetti. But the sun is out now and it looks and feels great! I still have a horrible mess in the driveway to clean out.

After church fun times!

Boys will be boys! Tyler is my new favorite boy toddler - Grandpa Benson's twin! I know he thinks he can talk now, but I can hardly wait until he REALLY talks! I think he will be soooo much fun!
I had fun taking their pictures and as always, AJ takes a great picture!
Came home from church, made a fire, shoveled the driveway and did two loads of laundry - now about to bake a pan of blonde brownies. Talked to Mom and she and Dad both have colds so I want to make sure that I pray for them continually. At their age, it could become serious.

Road trip !

Road trip to Geneva, NY on Thursday 2/18. Scott had several inspections in Geneva and Penn Yan and then on to Rochester - so I went along for the ride and jumped off in Geneva to spend the day with my folks. It is a great excuse to get lots of uninterupted knitting done! Thanks to Mrs. Benson I am enjoying working on a hat.

Sorry for the double post of the picture of the welcome sign entering Geneva - I don't know how to delete the second photo! :-)

My day in a nutshell!

Thank goodness for Mrs. Benson who set my blonde moment straight! I am about to cast on my 104 stitches - on TWO needles!!!! lol

Made 4 chicken pot pies from scratch, made Italian wedding soup - from scratch and signed up for wiki for HCF - wow, I am exhausted! lol Oh, forgot to say that we shoveled the driveway, and Scott got on the roof to shovel the ice dams off. Came inside and did laundry, ran so local errands and NOW I can say.....I am exhausted!

In keeping with thoughts about Nan.....

Well, this is some cross stitching that she did probably almost 45 to 50 years ago. It hung in her livingroom over one end of the sofa for as long as I remember. It is stained around the edges because Grandpa use to smoke.
It can probably be restored.

See that? It's blue sky! Doesn't it look GREAT? I LOVE blue sky! I LOVE sunshine! It makes my soul so happy! This is a shot out the back window of my office at work.
There are lots of creature footprints out there - even kitty prints.
Already thinking about spring.

My husband brought flowers to the office today - and the pink ones are from a fellow worker - Lisa. So sweet. I feel very special! Thanks Lisa, thanks honey!

Some ramblings about my grandparents....

I have been doing a lot of thinking about my grandparents - Ed and Gladys Pipp (my maternal grandparents). I called them Nan and Grandpa - they lived two blocks from our house - I LOVED them. When I was little I use to think that my grandpa was the spitting image of John Wayne - big, tall - and tough as nails. He was a professional baker but his real passion was wood working. My old brain is FULL of memories about him - I was his only granddaughter and he spoiled me rotten! Oh yeah, his other passion was fishing. He would go into to the bakery (The Home Dairy in Geneva, NY) at 2am and bake for the day and be done at about 10 or 11 am . He would then head to his favorite diner and have a bit of lunch, and go right to the Geneva Pier and fish till dinner time. He would come home to a good dinner made by Nan - then head off to bed. Somewhere in there I caught glimpses of him - he didn't fish every day. He loved to sit on his small front porch and gab with neighbors and I would walk down with my Mom and we would sit with them for awhile - I always sat on his lap. He smelled like fish, sugar cookies and whatever Nan made for dinner!!! My grandparent's were married for almost 65 years - death is what finally seperated them. They are together now.
I have equally wonderful memories about my grandmother - my Nan. She continually told me to stand up straight! Ha! She was so talented in hand crafts - her sewing was the talk of all of Geneva. She made ALL my dresses until high school (then it was not cool to have your clothes handmade - isn't that a shame???). Many of my dresses had smocking on the front which both she and my Mom did by hand. I remember everyday she would walk up to our house around 3pm and have clothes in the making for me to try on so she could make them fit just right. I HATED to try them on because they had pins in them and they would prick me while putting them on. She would poke me and tell me to stand up straight!!! lol She loved to crochet more than knit - she made afghans and shawls and doilies. She would crochet trimmings on all our pillow cases and she would make the loveliest potholders with crochet cotton. She taught my Mom everything she knew and in turn my Mom taught me...... that is where the crafting talent comes from. She was a good farm cook- an okay baker. I remember the baked beans she would make - they would take days to cook and man, were they delicious when they were done. I have her cole slaw dressing recipe that makes the best slaw on the planet. She NEVER wore pants........NEVER! A dress, stockings and shoes with small heels. She was very active in her church - she was in the sewing group, crochet group and the rommage sale group (they would do all these things for the needy in town) - she has an award from the church for her many many years of selfless service to the community. She (so did Grandpa) loved the Lord, believed in Him and it is my belief that she and Grandpa are by His side right now waiting for me.
It is my desire that someday I have the chance to be a grandmother - I want my grandchildren to call me Nan. I want to set the standard and be reminded by her name of the kind of grandmother I want to be for them. Like she was for me.
They raised two lovely daughters - my Mom Eleanor and my aunt Janice (four years apart in age, my Mom being the oldest). I remember when my Grandpa was lying in the hospital at 92 years old saying he wanted to make sure that his girls were being taken care of - his "girls" were both in their late 60's!!! That shows you the love he had for them.....they were his girls even when they were in their 60's!!! What family love.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

On Sunday afternoon I got out the Valentine decorations and Fiona happened to be walking by as I had this hat in my hand. I grabbed her and plopped it on the top of her head and she was not happy. The rest of the decorating when well......... and she immediately left the room!!!

My little old lady Fiona

Okay, here she is, my little old lady. She is my knitting buddy, bed buddy and all around sweetheart! I don't have any grandbabies, so this is as close as it gets. Sick, I know. She is always curled on my lap while I knit and she is very patient getting poked by my needles as they dangle above her head. Now that she is an old lady so doesn't play with my yarn any more.

Always an excuse to write!

Thanks to Mrs. Benson, I have once again wrapped my poor old brain around youthful toys and technology and started a blog! I must be nuts!
